Biliary Atresia
๐Overview
Biliary Atresia is a clinical condition appearing in early infancy where the bile ducts become scarred and obstructed. This blockage prevents bile from draining into the intestine, causing it to remain trapped within the liver and leading to clinical signs of impaired bile flow.
The disorder is identified as a primary cause of neonatal cholestasis and is a significant factor in pediatric liver transplantation cases. It involves progressive inflammation that may affect the bile duct structures both inside and outside of the liver shortly after birth.
