Fibrous Sclerosis of the Penis
๐Overview
Fibrous sclerosis of the penis, also referred to as Peyronie's disease, involves the formation of noncancerous scar tissue, known as plaques, within the tunica albuginea. This fibrous tissue can cause the penis to bend, indent, or shorten when it becomes erect.
The condition typically arises when localized inflammation leads to the buildup of dense collagen, which lacks the elasticity of healthy penile tissue. This loss of flexibility prevents the affected area from expanding normally during an erection, resulting in physical changes to the shape of the penis.
