๐Overview
This condition occurs when the varicella-zoster virus, which causes chickenpox, reactivates in the nerve tissue after remaining dormant for years. It typically manifests as a cluster of blisters that follows a specific nerve path on one side of the body.
While the virus remains in the body following an initial chickenpox infection, it may reappear later in life due to various factors that affect the immune system. This reactivation is distinct from a new infection and is generally limited to a specific area of the skin known as a dermatome.
