High Altitude Illness
๐Overview
High altitude illness is a group of conditions caused by rapid exposure to low oxygen levels at high elevations, typically above 2,500 meters (8,200 feet). It includes acute mountain sickness (AMS), high altitude cerebral edema (HACE), and high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE). These conditions result from the body's inability to acclimatize quickly to decreased atmospheric oxygen pressure.
